Payload Subsystem

AAUSAT-II are very pleased and happy that the Danish National Space Center has asked us to fly their new radiation detector as payload.

It is an experimental gamma detector. The detectors flown on earlier missions has been large, complicated and power consuming. The most common technology is based on pressurized gas and complicated interference patterns. The technology that is to be flown on AAUSAT II is based on a solid CdZnTe (Cadmium Zinc Telluride) crystal. The size of the crystal is 10 x 10 x 4 mm, and weighs less then 5 grams. This specific crystal has a detection range from 5 to 300 Kev with a resolution of 3 Kev at 60 Kev, making this small crystal a very usable scientific device.
